Beware of this shop: MC2 at Funan. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM

Yesterday, i paid a deposit for my order of Acer Travelmate 3044wmti notebook, as it was a discontinued model, we haggled over the price until we finally agreed on it. I reiterated that I would not want a display set, and the manager assured me of that, saying that the display set has been reserved for someone else and that there is one last set available. As he needs to install some software, we agreed that he deliver the notebook to my mum's office this afternoon. My mum had also arranged for the company technician to come down and install the company software.

Firstly, the notebook did not come in a box, but in a notebook carrier with the other components. On query, the delivery staff said they rode bike here hence hard to carry a box, but i saw a MC2 van downstairs.

When I saw the notebook, I immediately recognised it as the display set as the sticker is abit worn out. The acer stickers at the base were also broken. Luckily for me, i covertly take a photo of the set's serial number at the shop yesterday. I confronted the delivery people and they say they only do delievry. They called their manager and i spoke to him. He assured me that his staff took the wrong set and promised to send me a new set.

A few minutes later, he called me back and offered a discount of $250 on the display set as the person who ordered it cancelled the order. I refused as who knows how long the set has been there. He told me 5 days but i dun trust his words. I insisted on a new set and he agreed.

Next he called me and told me that as this model has been discontinued, he was not able to get a set from Acer and that there is no more in Asia Pacific. He said that Acer told him still got stock but now they said they do not have. I checked with my friend who is also an Acer dealer that Acer still has stock of this model.

Some time later, he called again and said offered me a free upgarde to Acer 6292 which he claims to be the replacment model. he thinks that i am a fool. the RRP of the acer 6292 is $300 less than that of the 3044wmti and he still say its a free upgrade.

In the end, he keep saying that its a mistake and not out to cheat me. I did not want other models, so I asked for lenovo x60. He offered me $2850 plus some useless free gift like mouse, cooling pad, bag and 1gb thumbdrive. He say cannot lower anymore as it is less than his cost price. I'll go down tml morning to settle with him and claim back my deposit. Pui.... PA Mart offered me $2800 ytd and i din want to take up the offer. I'm damn pissed.

Checking on the net, this shop has violated the Fair Trading Act (2004) Second Schedule. I will bring this to case and send a email to Acer. Hope they cancel their dealership rights.

What i feel cheated:

He sent me a display set without telling me. If i did not take photo of the serial number,I would have unknowingly accepted a used set as new!

Bluffed me that Acer no more stock of this model.

hence, all, please spread this to your friends to avoid being cheated!

Any other actions that i can take against this shop?
